Studio Arts @ EMU

The art major at EMU provides a solid foundation for students interested in pursuing professional art-related careers independent studio work, and graduate work in studio art. Studio classes develop artistic process and critical thinking in the context of a liberal arts university that embraces excellence, cultural understanding, respect for creation, and openness to diverse ideas. Through exposure to a variety of media, students develop artistic and analytic skills in various forms of artistic expression.

Additional art opportunities are available through local internships and participation in the Washington Community Scholars Center (WCSC). In the setting of Washington, D.C., students take advantage of internships in community arts organizations and businesses and study at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Catholic University, and Howard University.

The art major culminates with a senior exhibition thesis project. It highlights focused art work in a chosen medium and direction, supported by instruction in professional preparation and installation. The senior show provides an opportunity to publicly showcase each art major’s creative achievements.
